An English Choral Tradition - A Griffin Collection (5 CDs for $25)
An English Choral Tradition - All of the composers on this CD were inspired by The Three Choirs Festival, the longest running Musical Festival in the World. Whilst the Vaughan Williams Mass, the largest work here, was written originally for Holst`s "Whitsuntide Singers", RVW himself was a Festival stalwart.
Your Sweetest Notes: New Music from Norwich - Four premiere recordings of choral works are featured here (by Michael Nicholas, Peter Aston, Matthew Cann & Andrew Simpson), amongst a list of composers which includes many associated with this Cathedral. This fresh collection also includes the most popular choral work from the USA (by sheet music sales since 1994) in Laurisden`s wonderful O magnum mysterium.
Let Us Lift Up Our Heart - This collection by the world-renowned Chichester Cathedral Choir, features several splendid large-scale anthems by England`s finest choral composers of this fascinating period including also works by S.S. Wesley and John Goss.
Choirs of Cambridge: Jesus College Choir - These lovely musical performances, chosen from 3 recordings at Jesus College, demonstrate the first class quality this choral centre has always maintained, whether alone or supplementing other choirs such as King's in large-scale works. It serves as a base from which careers are launched, because of its standards. Featured, in perfect harmonies, is a wide variety, from Renaissance polyphony to modern pieces, with either the full choir of Men & Boys.
A Lichfield Celebration - This well-chosen wide-ranging collection (Hymns, Psalms, Anthems, a Mass & 2 Magnificats) is an all-round celebration of Lichfield Cathedral Choir in the 1980`s, during which time it rose to become one of the most respected in the country. During the period of these recordings, the choir visited Holland and the USA and in 1987 they sang before the Pope in Rome. Some of the composers featured also had associations with Lichfield.
